Day 18

Day 18

July 27th 2024

The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) participates in volleyball through the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) in region 2 1A conference.  These athletes also compete in the Mason Dixon volleyball tournament and in the Kentucky Spike Out volleyball tournament.  They are coached by head coach Jessica Creech and Assistant Coach Crystal Imig.  During the Mason Dixon tournament, they compete against other deaf schools from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Eastern North Carolina.  The SCSDB volleyball team also competes against public schools in the Regioin 2 1A conference, including Woodmont High School, Calhoun Falls, Dixie High School, McCormick High School, Ware Shoals, and Thornwell Charter School.

The Foundation assists with transportation, lodging, and meals during travel for all of our athletes.  Through this travel these students are able to have new life experience through visiting different restaurants and visiting new cities.  The coaches always try to make these trips fun and educational for all of the athletes.

Playing sports has many benefits for students.  Many athletes do better academically and sports teach teamwork and problem-solving skills.  In addition to the physical benefits of sports, they help boost self-esteem.  An added benefit for the students at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind is that playing sports exposes them to people and places they may not otherwise have a chance to experience.  They also get a chance to practice the real life skills they learn on our campus.
