The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind plays soccer through the YMCA during March, April, and May of each year. Our other opponents always show positive sportsmanship towards our athletes. The other players are excited to participate and play against the Green Hornets. They enjoy sitting down with our athletes after every game to learn new signs that our students teach them.
The Foundation helps to provide snacks and drinks for our youth participating in soccer. Playing sports has many benefits for students. Many athletes do better academically and sports teach teamwork and problem-solving skills. In addition to the physical benefits of sports, they help boost self-esteem. An added benefit for the students at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind is that playing sports exposes them to people and places they may not otherwise have a chance to experience. They also get a chance to practice the real life skills they learn on our campus.
A green and black cartoon hornet is depicted hitting a soccer ball with his head. The image includes the logo for the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind Foundation and the logo for 175 Days of Giving at the bottom. There's a faded historical building in the background.
