Mrs. Liz List is the Art Teacher at the SC School for the Blind and works tirelessly to provide opportunities for our students to showcase their talents using a variety of mediums to express their skills, knowledge and expressions. To build school community, she worked with 5th-8th graders to design an art piece for display in the Cleveland Learning Resource Center (the library and media center). This mural-like piece focused on the four seasons and used a tree to illustrate the four seasons with young leaves in the spring, fully leafed-out trees for summer, changing color leaves for fall and no leaves for winter. Mrs. List’s work with students typically brings in tactile approached and fosters connections to the real world.
Recently she received a grant to help students explore the Native American tribes of North America and the types of art they used for themselves such as basket weaving. Mrs. List had students explore the various art forms used by the tribes and try their hands at duplicating the art that was a part of the Native American’s life. Through this exercise students learned about the history, culture and the people who comprised the tribes.
On October 10, 2024 from 5:30-8:00 PM the SCSDB Foundation will be hosting an art auction where you can see and purchase art done by our students. This event will take place in Walker Hall on the SCSDB campus on Cedar Springs Road. Mrs. List, who is an exceptional artist in her own right, will have some of her own paintings on display and for purchase.
